Irish Foodservice Quality Food Awards Categories
These awards are aimed at the Foodservice and wholesale markets. If your product is a retail product, click here to go the Irish Quality Food Awards.
Each category has been specifically tailored to represent the key drivers in today’s ever-changing foodservice marketplace. Category definitions have been provided to help you select the right place for your product to be entered. Entry fee per product: €335 + VAT.

Café of the Year Entries
For the below four categories which are FREE TO ENTER, companies are asked to support their nominations by providing documentation of their achievements across key criteria including:
- Financial performance
- Company development
- Range and product development
- Staff training and development
- Marketing, advertising and promotion
- Customer service innovation
- Community involvement
- Supplier relationships
- Logistics improvements
- Environmental efforts e.g. Fairtrade, ethical policies, sustainability
Contract Catering Café of the Year
This is open to any contract catering companies operating cafés within the ROI/NI
Independent Café of the Year
Entrants must be independent café chains who own 5 outlets or fewer in the ROI / NI. Entries must be for a single nominated café, and all submitted information should relate to the performance of that café.
National Café of the Year
This category is aimed at any national café chains operating 10 or more outlets in the ROI / NI.
Regional Café Chain of the Year
This category is open to all regional café chains in the ROI / NI with stores solely within one of the four provinces.
(FS) Added IngredientsAny savoury or sweet ingredient used by cafés or available for use in a café e.g. cooking sauce, chutney, sachets, jams, syrups
(FS) Bagged Snacks
Any savoury or sweet snack that is sold in a packet e.g. crisps, nuts, popcorn, dried fruit
(FS) Bakery & Morning Goods
Any bread or breakfast bakery products used in a foodservice outlet, e.g. bread rolls, garlic bread, croissants, crumpets
(FS) Biscuits & Cakes
Any biscuits or baked cakes served in a foodservice outlet, e.g. victoria sponge, muffins, crackers, shortbread
(FS) Chocolate & Confectionery
Any chocolate product or sweets e.g. chocolate bars, fudge, packets of sweets
(FS) Cold Beverages
Any cold beverage sold to serve within a foodservice outlet. This can be bought pre-made or ready-to-mix, e.g. fruit juices, cordials, smoothies, fizzy drinks, waters
(FS) Dairy Products
Any chilled dairy product used within a foodservice outlet, e.g. butters, spreads, yoghurts, cheese
(FoodService) Desserts & Puddings
Any sweet pudding or dessert e.g. mousses, pies, roulades, cheesecakes
(FS) Fish and Shellfish
Any filleted or whole fish or shellfish product used within a foodservice outlet, e.g. salmon fillets, whole seabass, king prawns, mussels, crab
(FS) Fresh Produce
Any prepared or unprepared fresh fruit, vegetable or salad items for use within foodservice outlets, e.g. whole fruits, pre-cut fruit bags, pre-cut vegetables, stir-fry kits, whole vegetables
(FS) Frozen Food - Savoury and Sweet
All frozen food items can be entered here
(FS) Hot Beverages
Hot drinks sold in a café e.g. teas, coffee, instant coffee, milk drinks. The Kitchen Team will have a coffee grinder, cafetiere, nespresso machine and frother available. N.B. Depending on the number of entries, coffee may be separated out. Specialist Coffee either needs to be delivered to the LIT on the morning of judging if specialist equipment required (please contact firstname.lastname@example.org), or can be prepared by our home economist team according to your detailed instructions.
(FS) Meal Solutions
Products comprising the main ‘ready to cook’ component of a meal sold for consumption within foodservice outlets. The outlet with then add a garnish or side dish themselves e.g. marinated / stuffed meat portions, en croute dishes, ribs, stuffed vegetables, lasagne
Any meat product sold to serve within a foodservice outlet.
(FS) Meat Free Alternatives
Any product or ready meal that is free from meat and sold to serve within a foodservice outlet, e.g. vegetable curries, nut cutlets, bean burgers
