Aldi Ireland has collaborated with chef Lou Robbie to create a simple, affordable steak recipe that elevates at-home dining, reflecting a shift towards recreating premium restaurant experiences amidst rising food prices.

Aldi Ireland has teamed up with chef Lou Robbie on a steak recipe aimed at bringing a restaurant-style meal into the home at a time when diners are watching their spending more closely. The dish centres on Aldi’s Specially Selected Irish Black Angus sirloin steaks, which the retailer says come in at €9.99 for a two-pack, and pairs them with a white bean and Parmesan purée plus salsa verde. According to Checkout and Aldi’s own recipe pages, the pitch is simple: familiar ingredients, minimal fuss and a plate that feels more polished than the effort required to make it.

Robbie said the idea was to keep the meal “relaxed, affordable and achievable” while still producing something that feels special. She added that the ingredients do much of the heavy lifting, with the final dish looking and tasting like something from a restaurant. The recipe reflects a broader trend in Ireland, where rising menu prices are encouraging more people to recreate premium dining experiences at home rather than paying for them out.

The method is straightforward. The white bean purée is blended from cannellini beans, garlic, olive oil, Parmesan, lemon and stock, while the salsa verde combines herbs, capers, anchovy, lemon and olive oil. The steaks are then seared in a hot pan, finished with butter, garlic and thyme, and rested before being sliced and plated over the purée. Aldi’s wider recipe collection shows the retailer has been leaning into steak-led dishes for some time, from chimichurri sirloin and whisky peppercorn steak to surf and turf and steak salad.

For those wanting to turn it into a fuller supper, Aldi suggests serving the dish with charred tenderstem broccoli, roasted cherry tomatoes, roast potatoes or a rocket salad with lemon dressing. The result is an at-home dinner built around premium beef but pitched at a price point meant to feel accessible, rather than indulgent for its own sake.
