Denny is expanding its meat range with new nitrite-free bacon and ham, responding to rising consumer demand for simpler, cleaner ingredients in Northern Ireland and across Ireland, signalling a shift towards healthier processed meats.

Denny is broadening its bacon and ham offer with a new range made without nitrites, as the Ireland-based meat brand seeks to capitalise on consumer demand for shorter ingredient lists and fewer artificial additives. The products are being introduced across Northern Ireland over the coming weeks, with the company positioning the launch as part of a wider push to keep the brand relevant to changing shopping habits.

The line-up includes smoked bacon rashers, unsmoked bacon rashers, carved ham slices and wafer-thin carved ham slices. According to the company, the products contain no artificial preservatives and were developed in response to shoppers’ growing interest in food that is perceived as simpler and healthier.

The rollout began in Musgrave stores in Northern Ireland on 12 September, when the smoked and unsmoked bacon rashers first went on sale. Tesco Northern Ireland is due to follow with the bacon products from 21 September, while the two ham lines are scheduled to arrive in Tesco stores on 12 October.

Chris Doe, Denny’s UK and Ireland marketing and innovation director, said the launch was designed to meet demand for simpler ingredients without sacrificing taste or quality. He added that the range offers more choice across everyday favourites and reflected the brand’s continued investment in product innovation, while also creating fresh opportunities for retail partners.

The move mirrors a broader trend in the meat aisle, where manufacturers and supermarkets have been adding nitrite-free or no-added-nitrites options to their own and branded ranges. Shelf Life reported that Denny’s new products are also being rolled out in the Republic of Ireland through Musgrave, Dunnes Stores and Tesco Ireland, underlining the company’s effort to build a presence on both sides of the border. In that context, the launch is as much about defending market share as it is about meeting a more health-conscious consumer mood.
